Western Blot Detection of Human Ferritin antibody by Western Blot. View Larger

Detection of Human Ferritin by Western Blot. Western blot shows lysates of human liver tissue and human spleen tissue. PVDF membrane was probed with 5 µg/mL of Mouse Anti-Human Ferritin Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # MAB93541) followed by HRP-conjugated Anti-Mouse IgG Secondary Antibody (Catalog # HAF018). A specific band was detected for Ferritin at approximately 20 kDa (as indicated). This experiment was conducted under reducing conditions and using Immunoblot Buffer Group 1.

Immunocytochemistry Ferritin antibody in iBJ6 iPS Cell Line by Immunocytochemistry (ICC). View Larger

Ferritin in iBJ6 iPS Cell Line. Ferritin was detected in immersion fixed iBJ6 iPS cell line differentiated into hepatocytes using Mouse Anti-Human Ferritin Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # MAB93541) at 1 µg/mL for 3 hours at room temperature. Cells were stained using the NorthernLights™ 557-conjugated Anti-Mouse IgG Secondary Antibody (red; Catalog # NL007) and counterstained with DAPI (blue). Specific staining was localized to the perinuclear membrane. View our protocol for Fluorescent ICC Staining of Cells on Coverslips.

Background: Ferritin

FTH (Ferritin Heavy Chain 1; also Proliferation-Inducing Protein 15, PIG15, and PLIF) is a 183 aa cytosolic and secreted protein (SwissProt #: P02794).  Human FTH is highly conserved among species and shares 93% and 95% aa identity with mouse and rat FTH, respectively.  It is important for iron homeostatis by storing iron in a soluble form readily available to cells as well as having ferroxidase activity.  Additionally, FTH plays a role in iron delivery to cells and can be secreted in small amounts in the serum as an iron carrier.
