Glycobiology-related Enzymes

Enzymes play several crucial roles in glycobiology. For instance, transferases are involved in complex carbohydrate synthesis. In addition, carbohydrates are metabolized by glycosidases and modified by a variety of enzymes including sulfatases. As a result, these enzymes may be utilized as useful tools to understand carbohydrate structure and function. For example, they may be used to delineate or determine the structure of an oligosaccharide of interest, or modulate carbohydrate structure to see how it impacts its biological functions.
