Neural Stem Cells
Derived from the ectoderm layer, neural stem cells differentiate to form the cells of the central nervous system. Neurons, astrocytes, and oligodendrocytes all develop from neural stem cells. R&D Systems offers ready-to-use primary cortical stem cells isolated from E14.5 Sprague-Dawley rats and E14.5 CD-1 mice. In addition, products are available to identify neural stem cells that have differentiated toward specific lineages. Increasing our understanding of neural stem cell biology may have important implications for regenerative medicine, drug screening, and the development of cell based therapies. These discoveries will be particularly relevant for the treatment of spinal cord injuries and neurodegenerative diseases.
