Carrier Free
CF stands for Carrier Free (CF). We typically add Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) as a carrier protein to our recombinant proteins. Adding a carrier protein enhances protein stability, increases shelf-life, and allows the recombinant protein to be stored at a more dilute concentration. The carrier free version does not contain BSA.
In general, we advise purchasing the recombinant protein with BSA for use in cell or tissue culture, or as an ELISA standard. In contrast, the carrier free protein is recommended for applications, in which the presence of BSA could interfere.

Background: ICOS
Inducible co-stimulator (ICOS), also called AILIM (activiation-inducible lymphocyte immunomediatory molecule) and CRP-1 (CD28-related protein-1), is a member of the growing CD28 family of immune co-stimulatory receptors (1, 5). Other family members are CD28, CTLA-4 and PD-1 (2, 4). ICOS shares approximately 39% amino acid similarity with CD28 and CTLA-4. Cynomolgus monkey ICOS is a homodimeric type I transmembrane protein consisting of a putative signal sequence, an extracellular domain, a transmembrane region, and a cytoplasmic domain. Over aa 21-134, cynomolgus monkey ICOS shares 99% and 70% aa sequence identity with human and mouse ICOS, respectively. ICOS is expressed on most CD45RO+ cells (3). ICOS expression is up-regulated within approximately 24-48 hours of activation on Th primed cells (4, 6). B7-H2, a member of the B7 family of co-stimulatory ligands, has been identified as the ICOS ligand (4, 5). The B7‑H2/ICOS interaction appears to play roles in T cell dependent B cell activation and Th differentiation (5, 7).
