INTENDED USE AND DESCRIPTION: For use a quantitative control for the determination of human CD14 concentrations in biological fluids. Controls are supplied lyophilized. Please refer to the lot specific certificate of analysis and Simple Plex Lyophilized Quality Control product insert for additional information.

Storage

• Store lyophilized controls at 2-8 °C. Lyophilized controls are stable for up to 12 months from date of receipt.
• Reconstituted controls are stable for up to 6 months from date of preparation when stored at ≤ -70 °C. Storage at -20° C is not recommended.
• Individual frozen aliquots of low and high controls are designed as single-use entities. Thaw directly before use and discard any remaining volume.

Background: CD14

CD14 is an acute phase glycoprotein that binds lipopolysaccharide endotoxins (LPS) from Gram-negative bacteria. It is primarily expressed on monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils, and soluble forms can be secreted or shed from the cell surface. CD14 accepts LPS from its initial binding by LBP, and it can further transfer LPS to the TLR4/MD2 complex. LPS acctivation of TLR4 triggers inflammatory activation. CD14 also contributes to the response to TLR3 ligands, phosphoinositides, as well as the surfactant proteins SP-A and SP-D.
