Detection of West Nile Virus (wnv) NS1 Protein by Western Blot. Western blot shows recombinant West Nile Virus (wnv) NS1 protein. PVDF membrane was probed with 2 µg/mL of Mouse Anti-Viral wnvNS1 Protein Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # MAB29072) followed by HRP-conjugated Anti-Mouse IgG Secondary Antibody (Catalog # HAF018). A specific band was detected for wnvNS1 Protein at approximately 59 kDa (as indicated). This experiment was conducted under reducing conditions and using Immunoblot Buffer Group 1.

Background: wnvNS1 Protein

West Nile Virus, or WNV, is a member of the Flaviviridae family that includes other human pathogens such as yellow fever (YF), dengue (DEN), tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), Japanese encephalitis (JEV), and Murray Valley encephalitis (MVE) viruses. West Nile virus (WNV) is a single-stranded RNA mosquito-transmitted virus that causes epidemics of encephalitis and viscerotropic disease. The WNV nonstructural protein NS1 is a 48-kDa highly conserved secreted glycoprotein that does not package with the virion. Even when absent from the virion, immunization with NS1 typically elicits a protective immune response.
